Phone Accessories Business Remains Profitable Amid Challenges in Accra

The phone accessories business continues to be a lucrative venture for many traders at the Kaneshie Market and lorry station, even as they navigate challenges such as counterfeit products, customer complaints and occasional market fluctuations.

In an exclusive interview with The New Finder traders say high-demand items, including earphones, chargers, phone cases, screen protectors, and keypad phones, generate substantial profits each month.

One trader explained that while monthly earnings can reach thousands of Ghana cedis, maintaining good customer relationships often requires replacing faulty products shortly after sale. “After using a product for a few days, a customer may come back saying it has issues and request a replacement,” he said. “We do it to build trust and maintain loyalty, even if it affects our profit.”

Counterfeit products remain a major concern. Some fake items are designed to look like original products, leading to customer complaints and potential mistrust. Traders advise new entrants to focus on quality and unique designs, noting that honest practices build credibility and encourage repeat business.

Starting a phone accessories business, according to traders, does not require huge capital. Approximately ten thousand Ghana cedis can cover securing a space, setting up a stall, and purchasing initial stock. Beyond startup costs, traders emphasize the importance of consistency in product quality, effective customer service, and fair pricing.

“Even with challenges like fluctuating sales, counterfeit products, and customer complaints, honesty, quality products, and good customer service remain the keys to sustaining the business,” one trader said. Others added that offering repair services alongside sales can enhance customer trust and loyalty, creating a reliable customer base.

The traders also highlighted the importance of monitoring market trends and maintaining a diverse product range to meet changing customer demands. High-quality chargers, earphones, and protective accessories remain the most profitable items, while screen replacements and refurbished phones offer additional revenue streams.

Despite the hurdles, phone accessories continue to provide a steady source of income for traders at the Kaneshie Market and lorry station, demonstrating the resilience of small-scale entrepreneurship in Accra.
