Toyota Tsusho, Ghana seal green auto industry partnership
Ghana has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Toyota Tsusho Corporation (TTC) to advance the country’s automotive sector, with a focus on green mobility and industrial expansion.
The agreement was signed by the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, on the sidelines of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Japan.
It is expected to pave the way for the introduction of environmentally friendly vehicles, starting with Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), as part of Ghana’s multi-pathway strategy to cut carbon emissions.
“This milestone demonstrates Ghana’s commitment to becoming a competitive hub for automotive assembly and green innovation in Africa. It also deepens our trade and investment ties with Japan,” Mrs Ofosu-Adjare said.
The MoU goes beyond vehicle promotion to include provisions for technical training and knowledge transfer, with the possibility of establishing a Toyota Academy in Ghana to build local expertise.
The collaboration with Toyota Tsusho is the latest in a series of initiatives aimed at boosting Ghana’s industrial growth while contributing to global climate targets.
