Businessman proposes National Rescue Fund to aid vulnerable Ghanaians

Ghanaian businessman Dr. Kofi Amoah is calling on the government to establish a National Rescue Fund (NRF) to support vulnerable citizens as the new administration tackles inherited economic challenges.
In a message on X, Dr. Amoah highlighted the current situation, referring to “empty national coffers” and “mega loans” left by the previous administration.
He urged citizens to participate actively in recovery efforts rather than relying solely on government action.
Dr. Amoah pledged to donate GHS100,000 to the NRF once it is established by the Ministry of Finance.
He emphasized that the Fund should provide timely aid in areas like healthcare and education, where professionals are facing worsening conditions.
The businessman proposed that the Ministry of Finance establish an NRF account accessible through mobile money, bank transfers, and other secure channels, and encouraged leadership in facilitating the Fund’s setup and promoting nationwide participation to ensure broad-based support.
Dr. Amoah called on individuals, institutions, traditional authorities, churches, diaspora groups, and professional associations, including the Ghana Bar Association, Ghana Medical Association, and Association of Ghana Industries, to contribute.
He encouraged donations ranging from GHS2 to GHS1,000 to demonstrate national unity.
According to Dr. Amoah, the NRF would symbolize collective responsibility and reduce dependence on external aid, promoting local resource mobilization for national development.
