Moliy makes history as first Ghanaian to perform at BET Awards

Ghanaian singer-songwriter Moliy has made history by becoming the first artist from Ghana to perform at the prestigious BET Awards.
The groundbreaking moment took place on June 9 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, where Moliy delivered a high-energy rendition of her smash hit ‘Shake It to the Max (FLY)’, leaving the audience in awe.
Dressed in a dazzling gold-green ensemble, Moliy lit up the stage alongside collaborator Silent Addy, infusing the global platform with the vibrant rhythms of Afrobeats. Social media erupted as clips of her performance went viral, with fans proudly waving Ghanaian and Jamaican flags in celebration.
Moliy’s historic appearance at the BET Awards comes just weeks after her electrifying performance at the 2025 Ghana Music Awards in Accra. Taking to social media to celebrate the milestone, she shared a triumphant video with the caption: “When you’re the first Ghanaian to perform at the BETs.”
While Moliy stole the show, Nigerian Afropop star Ayra Starr emerged as the sole African winner of the night, claiming the award for Best International Act—her first BET Award. She now joins an elite group of past African winners, including Burna Boy, Tems and Tyla.
