Agyemang-Badu backs Ghana U20 for success in Egypt

By Lukman MUMIN, Accra

Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has cautioned the Black Satellites to remain focused as they prepare to kick off their campaign at the 2024 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Suez, Egypt.

Speaking ahead of Ghana’s second game in Egypt against Senegl, the former U-20 World Cup winner urged the team to approach the tournament with confidence, but not complacency.

Badu, who played a pivotal role in Ghana’s historic triumph in 2009, reminded the players of the country’s rich tradition in youth football, while warning that opponents often raise their game when facing Ghana.

“Well, it’s a very difficult group, but they are beatable, every team, every country is beatable; especially when they’re playing against Ghana,” Badu said.

He noted that matches involving Ghana always carry extra weight for opponents, who are eager to make an impression.

“Opponents always want to prove a point against us, not out of fear, but to make themselves proud,” he added.

The Black Satellites, coached by Desmond Ofei, are hoping to make a strong start in the tournament as they aim to progress to the knockout stage.

The Black Satellites will face Senegal on Monday evening after drawing their opening game against DR Congo.
